Tile engine is a collective term for certain game engines two-dimensional graphics. With the help of tiles, usually square small graphics, the playing field is composed. This can be described simply by means of a multi-dimensional data field, which maps the columns and lines of the game field grid. Each value in it then stands for a particular tile. So you can easily design different game fields and game sections. The raster concept allows a relatively simple movement of figures as well as collision interrogation. A subcategory of Tile Engine are the Iso Engines.
