Souterrain von Tigh Talamhain
Souterrain von Tigh Talamhain
Tigh Talamhain (also known as Lachsay) is located about 400 m east of the abandoned farm Lachasay, on a slight ascent over the plain, on the right bank of the Abhainn Sneosdal, about 23 m from the river, on the island of Skye, the largest island of the Inner Hebrides in Scotland. In the souterrains, a distinction is made between "rock-cut", "earth-cut", "stone built" and "mixed" souterrains.
The (stonebuilt) basement - also known as Earthhouse - was discovered many years ago and partially destroyed when part of the access was removed and a hole was made into the roof. It consists of inwardly inclined walls of dry stonework which form a bee-shaped chamber of about 1.75 m diameter. It is entered through an eastward running corridor, which has a remaining length of about 3.0 m. The separated outer part of the aisle is indicated by a trough in the ground. The complete walk was slightly more than 7.5 m long. It measures 0.75 to 0.9 m in width. About 1.5 m from the inner end of the aisle is a fall 15 cm lower than the others placed. On the left side of the aisle is a niche with a fall.
Directly north from the entrance to the Erdhauses are signs of an oval hut circle of about 4.0 m long and 3.0 m wide with access to the underground building. Edit source text Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
