Robert Gruthuysen
The blessed Robert Gruthuysen also Robert of Bruges (* before 1131 in Bruges, Flanders, † 29th April 1157 in the monastery Clairvaux, France) was the second abbot of the Cistercian convent Clairvaux.
He came from the noble Flemish family Gruthuysen. He was one of the thirty students Bernhard von Clairvaux brought from Flanders to Clairvaux in 1131. Eight years later, he became abbot of the monastery Ten Duinen (Koksijde, Belgium). In 1153 he was succeeded by Bernard of Clairvaux as Abbot of Clairvaux. Robert Gruthuysen died in 1157.
