Clownstep

Clownstep or doofstep is a pejorative term used to designate a certain type of drum and bass and dubstep music. This expression is usually a part of the jump-up that emerged in the late 1990s. drum and bass considered as clownstep usually has strident and jumping bass lines, a very simple rhythmic structure and frequently swingbeats samples.

The creation of the term is attributed to producer Dylan, who used it to describe the sound of the single "Bodyrock" by Shimon & Andy C .. The term was extended in a way that has progressively been used not so much as descriptive of a particular style but rather as a way to insult a producer or to denigrate a musician who no longer have the favor of public and / or critical.
