Brother Mateo Panduro professed in the order of barefoot Carmelites. He was first professor at the University of Salamanca and qualifier of the supreme. He was later bishop of Popayan (Colombia), followed by a second appointment as bishop in the city of La Paz (Bolivia) where he died in 1722. From America he sent a brother who had a priest in Salamanca a large sum of money in gold (13 arrobas, 13 pounds, 10 ounces and 5 adarmes, and some jewels to build in Valderas home town) a seminary, for the upbringing and better education of the children of that town, in his own words.
