Walter Rieß (also Walter Ries, born December 29, 1885 in Berlin, died 1943 in Auschwitz) was a German opera singer (bass).

Rieß joined in 1910 after his musical education at smaller theaters as an actor and operetta singer. In 1914 he was drafted for the war service in the First World War. After the end of the war, he continued his career at the Stadttheater in Krefeld, now an opera singer. In 1920/21 he joined the Stadttheater Elberfeld, before moving to the Düsseldorf opera house. There he appeared on April 29, 1923, at the premiere of the opera The Holy Duck by Hans Gál. In 1926 he went to the Bavarian State Opera Munich; to his roles there belonged the Bartolo in Figaro 's wedding, the Osmin in abduction from the seraglio, the Falstaff in the funny wives of Windsor, the Beckmesser in the master - ringers of Nuremberg, the Alberich in the ring of the Nibelungen and the Nachtwunderer Hans Pfitzners The Rose of the Love garden.
