Gigono
Gigono (Greek, Γίγωνος) was an ancient Greek city of the Chalcidice peninsula. It is mentioned by Heródoto as one of the cities - along with Lipaxo, Combrea, Lisas, Campsa, Esmila and Enea- located in the proximities of the Thermaic gulf, in a called region Crosea, near the peninsula of Palene where Xerxes recruited troops in his expedition of the year 480 a. C. against Greece.
Later the city belonged to the league of Delos since it appears in a list of tributes to Athens in 434/3 a. C.
Gigono is also cited by Thucydides as the place where the Athenians, under the command of Calias, established a camp in 432 BC. C. when they were directed against Potidea.
It was located about 20 km northwest of Potidea.
