George Taliaferro Ward
George Taliaferro Ward (* um 1810 in Fayette County, Kentucky; † 5. Mai 1862 bei Williamsburg, Virginia) war ein amerikanischer Politiker (United States Whig Party) und Offizier in der Konföderiertenarmee.
Ward was a member of the Territorial Councils of Florida from 1833 to 1834. He represented Florida between 1838 and 1839 at his constitutional convention in Leon county. After that, he was unsuccessfully standing for a seat in the US Congress in 1841 and a seat in the US Senate in 1848. In 1852 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the post of governor of Florida. He also represented Florida in 1861, first at the Secession Convention, and then at the Provisional Confederation Congress. In the same year, he also applied for the post of Senator of the Confederate States. He was active in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War, where he held the rank of a Colonel in the 2nd Florida Infantry. Ward died on May 5, 1862, when he led his regiment into the Battle of Williamsburg. He was then buried at the Episcopal Cemetery in Williamsburg. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
