ATLAS (telescope)
One of the concepts proposed for the ATLAST, a design based on a monolithic mirror of 8 meters
The Atlas Advanced Technology Large-Aperture Space Telescope (ATLAST) is a space observatory that is in a study phase. It is part of a NASA project that intends to evaluate the next missions of this entity, and intends to put in orbit this telescope that will be able to observe planets that could harbor life as in our Earth and that are located in our galaxy, besides studying the matter dark and detecting stars like our sun in galaxies located up to 30 million light-years away. The atlas telescope will have a sensitivity 40 times higher than that of the current Hubble Space Telescope and will have a diameter of 16 meters. This telescope will be located at point number 2 of the Lagrange Point series at about 1.5 million kilometers.
