A Microstock agency is a picture agency that offers stock photographs over the Internet at favorable conditions. They differ from conventional agencies in the first place by the acquisition of the photographs on the Internet, secondly by the inclusion of a wider spectrum of photographers - also by amateur photographers - and thirdly by the low price level. Prices for individual images vary considerably. If the original thought of Microstock is also a micropayment of a few cents, the cost per image is an average of about 2 to 5 € for a web resolution. In addition to photographs, audio and video files are now also sold through this business model.
Images that can be purchased from Microstock agencies are generally characterized by the royalty-free license model or the editorial use of the image material.
Bruce Livingstone opened iStockphoto, the first Microstock agency to be bought by the largest photo agency, Getty Images, for $ 50 million in 2006. Known Microstock agencies Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
