The carnivorous vulture


The carnivorous vulture is a work of Francisco de Goya that belongs to the series The Disasters of War. It is the stamp with the number 76. The measurements are: 175 mm x 220 mm (footprint) and 250 mm x 342 mm the dimensions of the paper. The technique used is etching, dry tip and burnisher. Stamping with entrapado. The support on which the print is made is coarse corrugated paper, manufactured by José García Oseñalde in La Cabrera (Guadalajara). Description of the print and interpretation

A mutilated eagle surrounded by people of the town is attacked by a man with a gallows, in the background is a group of soldiers in retreat. Evident allusion to the withdrawal of the French army and the end of the war, towards the end of 1813.
