Popular Songbook of Villena
The Villena Folk Songbook is a work compiled by José María Soler García, a multifaceted man who dedicated himself to almost all fields of knowledge related to Villena, his hometown. The work consists of a collection of songs and traditional songs from the region of Villena and is composed of two parts. The first, dedicated to music, has 254 sheet music and the second, more literary, contains a total of 2,469 texts spread between coplas, romances and seguidillas. The material was compiled directly by Soler except for the handwritten collection that Eduardo Marín made in 1861.
The work was awarded with the extraordinary prize of the contest made by the Institute of Musicology of the CSIC in 1949. It has been published several times, the last one in 2006, with a roll of 1000 copies. Sources
