Ley de Sturgeon
The First National B Championship 2016 was the thirty-first edition of the second division Argentine soccer tournament. It began on January 29 and ended on June 19.
The new entrants were, on the one hand, the descendants of the First Division: North Cruise and New Chicago, who had ascended in the 2014 season. On the other hand, the four promoted teams of the third category, two by the branch of the clubs directly affiliated to the AFA, through the tournament of First B, and two others by the affiliates indirectly, that dispute in the Federal Tournament. They were: Brown, of the city of Adrogué, winner of the Championship of First B 2015, whose last participation had occurred in the 2013-14 tournament, and Almagro, from the town of José Ingenieros, winner of the Tournament reduced by the second promotion, and whose last season in the category had been in the 2008-09 edition; Talleres, from the city of Córdoba, which was champion of the Federal Tournament to 2015 and returned to the category after two seasons of absence, and the debutant Juventud Unida Universitario, of the city of San Luis, winner of the phases by elimination of the Federal Tournament By 2015.
It was a transition tournament, so it was developed exclusively in the first half of the year, with a different format than usual, in order to reconcile Argentine soccer competitions to the calendar of the Northern Hemisphere.
Champion, on the penultimate date, the Club Atlético Talleres, which thus obtained its second consecutive promotion and returned, after 12 seasons, to the First Division. On the other hand, the descent to the third category, by the system of averages, corresponded to United University Youth.
