Affirmative theology
Affirmative theology, positive or cataphatic, also called catafatism (from ancient Greek καταφατικός "affirmative", derived from κατάφημι "to affirm"), is a theological method that admits the possibility of knowing God through reason and contact with reality Creation, conceived as a work of God, becomes the instrument through which the attributes of the Creator can be identified. This theory, as well as through declarations or affirmations, is the counterpart of apophaticism. Its roots can be found in Peri Hermeneia (De Interpretatione) and Aristotle's Logic (Organon). It later developed predominantly in the context of medieval scholasticism. Notes Related Searches
