Shijō

Emperor Shijō (jap. 四条 天皇, Shijō-tennō; * March 17, 1231; † 10 February 1242) was the 87th Tennō of Japan (October 26, 1232-10 February 1242). His surname was Mitsuhito (秀 仁).

Shijō was the eldest son of Emperor Go-Horikawa. Go-Horikawa surrendered the throne to Shijō when Shijō was one year old. Two years after his coronation, his father, who was only 22 years old, died.
