Edward Leamington Nichols (* 14. September 1854 in Leamington, England; † 10. November 1937 in West Palm Beach, Florida) war ein US-amerikanischer Physiker.

Nichols studied at Cornell University, as well as at the universities of Leipzig, Berlin and Göttingen. He was promoted to the University of Göttingen in 1879. He then worked in the Thomas Edison lab in Menlo Park. In 1881 he became professor of physics and chemistry at the Central University of Kentucky, 1883 professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Kansas and 1887 professor of physics at Cornell University. He wrote several schoolbooks on physics and studied physical optics (fluorescence and luminescence).

Nichols was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1901), President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1907/08, President of the American Physical Society
