Bozner newspaper
First edition of the Bozner Wochenblatt from 7th January 1842, later Bozner newspaper
The Bozner Zeitung was a German-language newspaper, which appeared daily in Bolzano between 1842 and November 1918, weekly since 1864. The publisher was originally the Josef Eberle bookstore in Bozen. The name of the newspaper changed several times: from Bozner Wochenblatt (to 1849), Südtirolische Zeitung (until 1850), then Bozner Wochenblatt (until 1856), Constitutionelle Bozner newspaper (until 1868) finally Bozner newspaper (up to the position in the November 1918). The Bozner Zeitung was the oldest information sheet in German in Southern Tyrol and established the tradition of the liberal press in Bolzano. From the outset, the political orientation of the Bozner Zeitung was markedly liberal and anticlerical, partly antisemitic in the last few years, although the anti-church line was by far the most important, especially in the struggle with the Tyrolese Volksblatt .
As of 1894, the more moderate Bozner newspaper appeared as a competition paper for the Bozner newspaper. With the defeat of Austria-Hungary in the First World War came the end for the Bozner Zeitung: it was discontinued at the end of October 1918.
It is still one of the most important historical sources for the history of South Tyrol in the 19th century.
From 1919 to 1922 another publishing organ appeared under the name of Bozner Zeitung, which was boycotted by the readers because of the close ties to the Italian occupation power and ceased its appearance in 1922. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
