A coin federation is a contractual union of two or more neighboring coins with the aim of maintaining the stability of regional and trade coins in a region characterized by weak central power (such as, in particular, the medieval German empire). The minting associations had little influence on coinage. After a period of prosperity in the 14th century, the functions of the minting associations were increasingly taken over by the territorial and territorial governments, which were equipped with increasing financial resources.

The most successful German coin alliances are the Rhenish Coin Association, the Wendische Münzverein (Hanseraum) and the Rappenmünzbund (Oberdeutschland). Edit source text
