Paraprokt
The paired side plates (ventrolateral plates) of the eleventh hind limb of the insects are referred to as paraprops, derived from the Greek para = "next, over, at" and proktos = "After". In the case of most insects, they are very similar to the dorsal epiproct (commonly referred to as anal claps)
They perform a special function together with the dorsal epiproct in the larvae of the small gibbles (zygoptera). Here, all three sclerites are pulled out into leaf-shaped tracheal glands and serve to breathe in the water. Edit sourcetext
