Madia
The Madija or Culina are an ethnic group belonging to the Arawak family that inhabit the Peruvian Amazon basin in the Alto Purús and Santa Rosa rivers. Social organization
Members of this ethnic group practice cross-cousin marriage. Polygyny and sororate by exchange are also common, although this practice occurs less frequently. The levirate or marriage of the widow with one of his brothers-in-law is also a practical madija that loses its presence.
The madija or culina are divided into social units that call themselves names of plants or animals, apparently these groups do not have a marriage rule.
