Defecto Schottky


The Schottky defect is typical of ceramic materials, as it is a defect that appears to maintain the electroneutrality of the material. Opposite ion vacancies are generated to be canceled stoichiometrically; in order to maintain a neutral total charge. Each vacancy is a separate Schottky defect.

It is named in recognition of the German physicist of Swiss origin Walter H. Schottky (1886-1976).
