Tinnum
Tinnum is a municipality in the municipality of Sylt. The area has an area of 9.11 km².
Tinnum was first mentioned in 1440. From 1547 to 1868 the seat of the Sylt Landvögte was here, and also the island prison as well as the court were there. The Alte Landvogtei, built in 1649, is one of the oldest houses on Sylt.
In 1970, the municipality joined the communities of Archsum, Keitum and Morsum to the municipality of Sylt-Ost. Within the new community, Tinnum was the largest settlement. On the deadline of the last census on 25 May 1987, Tinnum had a population of 2228. On 1 January 2009 Sylt-Ost went to the new municipality of Sylt.
The place is connected with the western Westerland. Here, due to the central location on Sylt, there are several industrial areas which are essential for the tourism industry. There are also several large discounter markets, so that Tinnum - in addition to Westerland - takes over central supply functions for the island and its guests.
The so-called Tinnumburg, an eight-meter-high circular fortress with a diameter of 120 m, erected around the time of the birth of Christ, belongs to the place. Single-level Edit source text
