Tadmor Prison
Tadmor Prison (Arabic: سجن تدمر) is located in Tadmur in the deserts of eastern Syria about 200 miles northeast of Damascus (Tadmor or Tadmur is the Arabic name for Palmira). The structures were originally built as military barracks of the forces under the French Mandate. Tadmor Prison has been known for its harsh conditions, widespread abuse of human rights, torture and summary executions.
It was closed in 2001 but reopened in 2011 with 350 individuals arrested for participating in various events in the country.
