Matthew Anguiano Nieva


Mateo Anguiano Nieva or Mateo Anguiano Echevarría (n. Anguiano, La Rioja, in 1610, at the end of the 17th century) was a Capuchin religious from Spain.

Guardian of the monasteries of Alcalá de Henares and Toledo, he is considered one of the most learned among the monks of his community.

He traveled by order of his congregation to America to carry out his evangelizing and apostolic mission.

A student of the history of La Rioja, he was familiar with religious monuments located in towns throughout the region.

He was a writer of many works, his most famous book is the Compendio Histórico de La Rioja, published in 1701. Works
