José Amando Pérez

José Amando Pérez Arellano (1812 - 31 August 1875), founder of the Municipality Michelena; priest and doctor in theology, who was the great uncle of the President, General Marcos Perez Jimenez born in that town in 1914. Biography

Born in 1812, in the area now called the Father's House in which Michelena Municipality would be in a very poor family, who could send him to study the capital San Cristobal with many economic efforts, healing. Shortly after, the church destined it to Lobatera.

On Monday, February 26, 1849, a terrible and damaging earthquake occurred that destroyed several towns in the region, including Lobatera. The disaster was used by Father Perez to go with several families, his and others, to the Sabana Grande and found there the Municipality Michelena, Sunday, March 4, 1849. He gave his name in honor of the illustrious deputy Dr. Santos Michelena , killed in the 1848 Congressional Attack.
