Alberti bass


Bass Alberti is a particular type of accompaniment in music, often used in classicism. It was named after Domenico Alberti, who used it extensively, although he was not the first to do so.

Bass Alberti is a type of accompaniment with a broken or arpeggiated chord, where the notes of the chord occur in the order of bass-treble-medium-treble; then repeat the same pattern.

The bass Alberti is often found in the parts for the left hand in the music for keyboard instruments, especially in the piano works of Mozart. However, it is sometimes found in works for other instruments. For example, Béla Bartók used it towards the end of String Quartet # 5.

A well-known example of bass Alberti is found at the beginning of the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart K. 545 Piano Sonata:
