Wilhelm Wenz
Wilhelm August Wenz (* 21 October 1886 in Frankfurt / Main, 12 September 1945) was a German malacologist.
Wenz, the son of a master craftsman, graduated from high school in Frankfurt and studied mathematics, physics. Botany and zoology in Heidelberg, Tübingen and Marburg, and was promoted in physics in 1908 to the summa cum laude (determination of the velocity of sound in potassium vapor and the consequent monatomicity of its molecules). He belonged to the group around Wilhelm Kobelt at the Senckenberg Museum and, as a research associate, was closely associated with the museum and its collection of mollusk. He was a graduate student in Hanau. He was one of the leading German mollusc researchers. He was also an expert on the tertiary of the Mainzer basin. He was the editor of the Archives for Molluskunde. He died of the consequences of an operation.
