Victorious love
Victorious love, is a work of Caravaggio, painted in 1602 for Vincenzo Giustiniani, member of the social circle of Cardinal Del Monte. In a newspaper dating from the seventeenth century, the model is called "Cecco", in Italian, diminutive of Francesco. Possibly Francesco Boneri, Italian artist active between 1610 and 1625, and popularly known as Cecco del Caravaggio. Gianni Papi establishes certain connections between Bonieri and Caravaggio, of the servant-master type, beginning in 1600. See Robb, pp193-196. The work shows a naked Cupid, carrying a bow and arrows, while trampling the symbols of the arts, sciences and government. The model is undressed, and it is difficult to accept that it is one of his servants. The climax that relates this painting to the religious is the intense ambiguity with which the painter handles the models of different postures, whether sacred or profane. Bibliography used
