Sonnenuhr (Ormidale House)
The sundial of the Ormidale House is a sundial on the lands of Ormidale House in the valley Glendaruel on the Scottish peninsula Cowal. John Campbell commissioned the building, completed in 1719. At first the sundial was placed on the lands of Ballimore House in the south of Cowals near Tighnabruich. When Burnley Campbell, husband of Margaret Campbell of Ormidale, sold Ballimore House in 1897, he spent the sundial at her present location. In 1971, the sundial of the Ormidale House was incorporated into the Scottish Monumentalists in the highest category A.
The stone structure is richly ornamented with ornaments. It stands on a high, square base, which tapers steadily and is equipped with several gnomons. It has the form of an obelisk. The inscriptions IMC / 1719 and M.N.C./1830 can be found on two panels.
