Ricardo Urgoiti
Ricardo Urgoiti Somovilla (Zalla, July 26, 1900 - Fuenterrabía, September 14, 1979) was an entrepreneur of Spanish communication. Biography
Son of Nicolás María de Urgoiti. After finishing the career of Road Engineering in Madrid in 1921, he moved to the United States to complete his studies. Paralelamente, it begins in the world of the sport, arriving to be champion of Spain of ski and motonáutica.
After returning to Spain, he founded Radio Gente Popular magazine, and in 1924 became the main promoter of the creation of the radio station Unión Radio, the embryo of the future Cadena SER. With only 25 years he is appointed director of the chain.
In the 1930s, he became head of the film-making and film distribution company.
After the Spanish Civil War was exiled in Argentina, where he directed the film Mi cielo de Andalucía (1942) until 1943, when he returns to Spain. Six years later founds the pharmaceutical company Antibiotics, specialized in the production of penicillin.
Until the end of his life, he would devote himself to scientific and technical dissemination.
