Jorge Liderman


Jorge Liderman (born 16 November 1957 in Buenos Aires, February 3, 2008 in San Francisco) was an American composer.

Liderman studied at the Rubin Music Academy in Jerusalem with Mark Kopytman and at the University of Chicago with Shulamit Ran and Ralph Shapey. Since 1989 he taught at the University of California at Berkeley. Liderman's compositions have received international attention and have been among others. in Mexico, Germany and Great Britain. For the guitarist David Tanenbaum he composed the Waking Dances and Swirling Streams (2002). In 1992 the opera Antigona furiosa was performed at the Munich Biennale. In texts from the Old Testament, his compositions are Aires de Sefarad (2001), Song of Songs (2004) and Shir ha Sharim (1986).

On February 3, 2008, Liderman plunged a suburban train into San Francisco. On the following day, the chamber concerto for guitar and orchestra, which he composed for Carla Kihlstedt and the San Francisco Chamber Contemporary Music Players, was premiered at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
