Hanging punctuation
Example for hanging punctuation, here at the beginning of the line
In punctuation, typography is a technique that leads to quieter edges. In this case, punctuation marks, which must be set at the beginning or end of the line, are shifted outside the column edge, so that the letters that precede or after the punctuation marks are again at the column edge. If, for example, the hyphens within the column are found in block set, there are optical gaps at the edge, since the hyphen leaves much white space. By moving the hyphen over the column edge, the previous letter closes flush with the column edge, and the optical gap is closed.
