Fortadur
Fortadur is a trade name for a fiber reinforced glass.
Together with the University of Karlsruhe and the Technical University of Berlin, the Schott glassworks have developed a process whereby the strength of glass and glass ceramics can be considerably increased. The glass matrix is usually a borosilicate glass. Ceramic long fibers of carbon or silicon carbide are introduced into the glass matrix. The resultant composite is resistant to high mechanical, thermal and chemical loads. It can be used in mechanical engineering for heavily stressed structural elements, such as deflection fingers or stripping plates.
