The term notum (from ancient Greek νῶτον nōton, German, back ') refers to the anterior sclerotized (hardened) part of the tergum in insects. The nota of the three segments of the thorax are from the front to the posterior pronotum (fore-breast), mesonotum (middle breast), and metanotum (posterior).

A Tergum (Plural Terga) is the dorsal (backward) part of a body segment up to the pleures. In many cases, the terms "tergum" and "notum" are used in the same way.

Each secondary district, separated from the Notum, is called tergite, for example, the head (proscutum) and shield (scutellum). Especially in segments of the backbones the term Tergit is often also used for the whole notum. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Edit source text
