Boyd worked for a long time in occasional jokes and was among others actors, golf caddy, bartender and bullfighter. He finally switched to the boxing box and worked for more than 20 years as boxing trainer and cut man (dealing with the injuries of the boxer in the fight breaks).
He published under the title Champions. Stories from the ring a collection of seven short stories from the world of boxing. One of them served Clint Eastwood as a literary source for his feature film Million Dollar Baby.
