Cicno (son of Ares)
For other uses of this term, see Cicno. Piece of Attic ceramic with black figures found in Cámiros (Rhodes): an amphora in which the fight between Cicno and Heracles is represented. From left to right, Athena, Heracles, Zeus, Cicno and Ares. Ca. 550-530 a. C. In Greek mythology, Cicno was a son of Ares and Pelopia or Pirene who challenged Heracles to a unique combat in Itone, and died in the fight. He is sometimes presented as a giant who stole travelers who they returned from Delphi with offerings to Apollo.
In Hesiod Cicno appears as Ceix's son-in-law, whom Heracles challenged (and not the other way around).
