Kubach, who had been a founding member of Bajazzo since 1978, studied double bass and bass guitar at the "Hanns Eisler" Academy of Music from 1979 to 1983. In 1983, the first recordings with Bajazzo were recorded on the Amiga-sampler Kleeblatt no. 8: Jazz Here and now are documented; with the group, which appeared in time with Pascal von Wroblewsky, he recorded their first regular album in 1987.

In the following years, he was part of the trio of Helmut Forsthoff and the brass band of Hannes Zerbe (Rondo a la Fried 1992), with whom he was on tour. In addition, he accompanied Wroblewsky in their own band and in 1995 participated in the recording of their albums Give and Take and Speak Low. Then he played in Dudu Tuccis Odudua, the New Pulse Quartet and the WJO Orchestra.

In 2007, Kubach founded Uli Lenz and drummer Zam Johnson, the trio 105 Lenz Kubach Johnson, who was on the road in 2013 in Libya. He also plays for the trio of Friedhelm Schönfeld, with whom several albums were created and extended to the quartet and performed with Zbigniew Namysłowski. He has also worked with Ekkehard Jost in the last few years (with whom he can also be heard on recordings), but also in the African Chase Experience, the Anatolian Jazz Orchestra and Indigo Masala.
