Button (architecture)

An illustration of the ornamentation "button" or "ball flower" in Gloucester Cathedral. Shapes of ornamentation 'button' at Tewkesbury Abbey

The ball-flower (or ball-flower) is an architectural ornament in the form of a flower shaped ball that was used during the latter part of the thirteenth century, and became fashionable at the beginning of the century XIV. It can be seen usually placed in a row in the recess of a molding. The earliest copy of which has been heard is the one that can be seen in the western part of Salisbury Cathedral. The resort was heavily used at Gloucester Cathedral, on its south side.
