Vexin is a region of north-west France whose origin dates back to the division of the early times of the kingdom of France. In fact Vexin is more a geographical and natural entity than political and historical. Its original name comes from the Gallic village of Véliocasses that occupied the region: the pagus of the Véliocasses became the country of Vexin. In 911, when Charles the Simple had to leave part of the territory in the hands of the Viking Hrolf Ganger and became by this means in the Duchy of Normandy, the Vexin is divided in two by the route of the river Epte , a small tributary of the Seine.
