The accident insurance mutuals of Chile are the private non-profit institutions in charge of the actions of risk prevention, services and treatment of occupational accidents and diseases. Created by Law No. 16,744 on Accidents of Work and Professional Diseases of 1 of February of 1968.
Although they already existed at the time of enactment of the law, they supplemented the attention of work accidents considered insufficient at the time. The law established the system of contributions of workers for accidents at work and the entry of employers' associations in the care of their affiliated companies. The merger of the Work Accident Fund with the National Health Service assumes these functions, together with risk prevention.
In Chile there are three security mutuales:
In addition there is the Institute of Occupational Safety (ISL), which is the public entity in charge of administering Social Security against Risks of Work Accidents and Occupational Diseases. It is a public service that belongs to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Chile.
