Serenata para cuerdas (Chaikovski)
The Cello Serenade for Cords, Op. 48, by Tchaikovsky was composed in 1880.
ShapeThe Serenade for strings has 4 movements:
Tchaikovsky intended that the first movement be an imitation of Mozart's style, and was based on the form of classical sonatine, with a slow introduction. The hectic introduction Andante of 36 measures is marked "always marking "and full of double strings in violins and violas, forming imposing structures concord. This introduction is repeated at the end of the movement, and then reappears, transformed, in the coda of the fourth movement, linking the whole of the work together.
On the second page of Tchaikovsky's score he wrote, "The more musicians in the string orchestra, the more he will be in accordance with the wishes of the author."
The second movement, the Waltz, has become a popular piece in its own right. Premieres
The Serenade premiered at a private concert at the Moscow Conservatory on December 3, 1880. His first public performance was in St. Petersburg on October 30, 1881 under the direction of Eduard Napravnik.
