Caitiff
The Caitiff, in the fictional universe of the Vampire role-playing game: the masquerade, are blood vampires so weak that they can not be said to belong to any clan. They do not find the characteristic disciplines of any clan, nor their weaknesses.
Such weakening of blood has only occurred in late nights (the '90s) in the thirteenth generation on some rare occasions, and in most of the fourteenth (but not necessarily all) and all the fifteenth generation.
Often the term "caitiff" is not understood, and is associated with being abandoned by a sire (for whatever reason) or with not knowing to which clan belongs for some other reason, and this has led to confusion and misunderstanding the term. If one is embraced by a Lasombra, it is a Lasombra although his Sire leaves it. A Pander, likewise, is no more than a caitiff belonging to the Sabbat, where they are named after Joseph Pander, the caitiff leader during the third Sabbath civil war that took place during 100 nights in New York, and which ended with the union of the Brujah antitribu to the caitiff cause, forcing the Sabbat to recognize them as a legitimate clan within their hierarchy (although they are still despised and used as cannon fodder).
The terms "caitiff" and "bloodred" can be used colloquially as synonyms, but this is not strictly correct. For purposes of play, "bloodred" represents a number of important limitations on the power of blood, while "caitiff" designates a lack of clan (regardless of the circumstances of the embrace, as we have seen).
