Wilhelm Woellmer

Wilhelm Woellmer was the founder of the eponymous foundry, where many well-known fracture fonts were developed.

Woellmer was initially a commercial employee in the font foundry, Eduard Hänel. Woellmer founded his own company in Berlin in 1854 as a trading company for book printing utensils. Ten years later, in 1864, he completed the business of the foundry.

In 1883 the company was taken over by Siegmund Borchardt, the participant of a paper graft. Borchardt's brother, Emil Borchardt, joined the company as a further shareholder in 1884. Around 1888 a brass line factory was built. In 1938 the last self-developed book ("Gabriele" by Hans Möhring) was published and the company was dissolved. Some of the writings went to the foundries Gebr. Klingspor, Genzsch & amp; Heyse, Schriftguß KG and C.E. Weber about. Selection of known fonts Edit source text Edit sourcetext Edit source text
