The Vietnam Day Committee (VDC) in Berkeley (California) originated from the "Vietnam Day", the 35-hour anti-Vietnam war Teach-in, which on 21 and 22 May 1965 about 35000 people on the campus of the University of California

Immediately after "Vietnam Day", the members of the VDC agreed on the following priorities for the peace movement:

In late May 1965, the VDC set the deadline for the "International Days of Protest Against American Military Intervention" on October 15 and 16, 1965, and sent a request for support around the world.
