Satellite terminal

A satellite terminal is a special type of airport terminal that is separated from other buildings, so aircraft can park around it.

The first airport to use a satellite terminal was London-Gatwick Airport. It used an underground tunnel, through which the passengers circulated, connecting the satellite terminal with the main terminal. This was the first distribution used at the Los Angeles International Airport, but has been progressively converted to a terminal dock.

The first airport to use a mobile corridor to connect the Main Terminal with a Satellite Terminal was the Tampa International Airport, which is currently a standard. Terminal 1 at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and South Terminal at London-Gatwick Airport are both circular satellite terminals. Orlando International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport have multiple satellite terminals. Denver International Airport, Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport have linear satellite terminals connected by a central subway corridor. Kuala Lumpur International Airport has a cross-shaped satellite terminal, which is used for international flights.
