Organization X
The organization X (Greek Οργάνωση Χ, after the Greek letter Chi) was a right-wing organization founded during the German occupation of Greece by Colonel Georgios Grivas.
Grivas designated organization X as a resistance organization. However, she did not play a big role in the fight against the German occupation. It should have given information about German positions and troop movements to the British command in Cairo. When the German army withdrew, the group was armed by the British, and also took over arms which the Germans had left behind when they retreated. In doing so, she took up the fight against the communist resistance movement EAM / ELAS.
During the December fighting in Athens, the organization, along with the security battalions and police forces, fought on units of the ELAS on 4 December 1944 in the area of Theion (Theseions) and in the district of Makrigiannis. The fight was a loss for both sides.
The role of Organization X is still controversial both politically and historically. The political rights they regard as a patriotic organization that supported the resistance and kept Athens from the communist takeover. After the Greek civil war it was officially recognized as a resistance organization. On the other hand, it is viewed by the Left as a "fascist" organization and accused of collaborating with the occupiers.
