Neighborhood La Providencia
Known as the second district of Pereira, a city in Colombia, Barrio La Providencia was founded by a society of Pereiran citizens who saw the need to create housing on the outskirts of the city because of the displacement of people from the countryside to the city because of the violence of the 1950s.
The founder was the civil engineer Rafael Agudelo Correa, who in 1946 created the Society of Economic Workers' Constructions Barrio de la Providencia and a year later became Cooperativa de Quartos Obreras Económicas del Barrio de la Providencia. The dedication of the founder in his book of poems "Gajo de Poesías" (Ed. Heraldo-Pereira) reflects the spirit with which the neighborhood was built: "Not only my nerve, but a little spirit, for the workers who in advanced Christian of claim, have cooperated with their understanding and fight to the reality of the Neighborhood of Providence. "
One of the founders was Miguel Ángel Urrego Alzate, a dentist who worked as treasurer and contributed much of his efforts to build the neighborhood. The bust of the founding father of Barrio Providencia, which was paid and sent to do by Miguel is waiting for a commemorative plaque where the names of all persons responsible for the founding of the neighborhood's creative cooperative will be read.
