Matthias Zurbriggen (born 15 May 1856 in Saas-Fee, Switzerland - died 21 June 1917 in Geneva) was one of the greatest climbers of the 19th century, and mountain guide in the Alps. He was the precursor of the solitary mountaineering carrying out numerous ascents in the Eastern Face of Monte Rosa in extreme conductions, which earned him his nickname "Great Deer". In addition to its numerous climbs in the Alps it climbed in South America, in the Himalayas and in the New Zealand Alps.

He was the first to climb Aconcagua on January 14, 1897 (followed by two climbers) and the Tupungato, the same year, along with Stuart Vines. He made numerous other first ascents.
