Church of Sant Miquel de Soriguerola

The church of Sant Miquel de Soriguerola, is located in the town of Soriguerola, belonging to the municipality of Fontanals de Cerdanya in the region of Baja Cerdanya.

It is documented in the testament of Count Wifredo II of CerdaƱa, of the year 1035 in which it leaves in allodium to Soriguerola and its church to his wife. This church was sacked by Cathar troops in 1198. Building

Its construction is small, short and low, of single rectangular nave with semicircular apse with vault of quarter of sphere and the one of the ship slightly pointed.

In the exterior, the frontispiece in the southern part is built with rows of opus spicatum and is where it has a small bell tower. In the apse you can also see the opus spicatum and a window of the type lozenge in its center. Painting Front of San Miguel Main article: Frontal of San Miguel

From this church is located in the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, in Barcelona, ​​a Frontal of San Miguel, an altar frontal painted on wood, representing the psicostasis with San Miguel and the devil weighing the souls; in the low register is the scene of the Holy Supper as well as the fight of San Miguel with the dragon. The painting is attributed to the so-called master of Soriguerola.

A 12th-century Romanesque image of a Virgin and Child disappeared in the Spanish Civil War of 1936. Bibliography
