Andronico de Cirro
Torre de los Vientos, built in the 1st century BC. C. by Andrónico de Cirro.
Andronicus of Cirrus (Greek: Ανδρόνικος Κυρρήστου), also known as Andronicus Cyrrhestes, was a Greek astronomer, who lived around the year 100 BC. C.
He built a horologium in Athens, the so-called Tower of the Winds, of which a good part still remains. It presents an octagonal form, with figures carved in each side that represent the eight main winds. In antiquity, a bronze figure of Triton was standing on the summit, who had a rod in his hand that turned with the wind and pointed to it. From here comes the custom of placing weathercocks on top of the towers.
